Jenny Nightingale
Jenny lives and works on the Isles of Scilly, where she is never short of inspiration for her illustrations. The vivid colours in nature that surround her are reflected in her work, which often features crazy, ‘googly-eyed’ characters.
Since graduating from University College Falmouth in 2000, Jenny has worked as a freelance illustrator for clients including Macmillan Publishers, the National Marine Aquarium, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the Wildlife Trusts. She also has her own range of giftware available on the Isles of Scilly.
Jenny uses email as her main form of communication with clients.
She says ‘ I would simply not be able to work without broadband. It allows me to communicate with clients and get instant answers about artwork. I also use it to send artwork to printers. It really has revolutionised the way I work. No more hanging around waiting for things to go back and forward in the mail. With broadband, I can get projects finished in half the time. It has also meant that I can stay on the Isles of Scilly, my home.’
Jenny has her own website, displaying examples of her work.
‘With broadband, my clients can view my work much more quickly than with dial-up. Images appear as quickly as text so they don’t have to wait for things to load.’ she says.
She is increasingly travelling away from the Isles of Scilly for client meetings or to visit friends on the mainland, and is planning to get a wireless laptop and use broadband hotspots. She says ‘Broadband is positively changing the nature of my business, and has made it possible to never be out of touch, as far as clients are concerned. Of course, with broadband, you can work just as efficiently anywhere anytime. This suits my lifestyle brilliantly.’
She concludes ‘Broadband saves me time and money, increasing my efficiency and productivity. It also allows me to stay on the Isles of Scilly, my home and my main source of inspiration. What could be better than that?’
