The Centre, Newlyn
EverybodyOnline is driving a local project in Newlyn, aimed at promoting use of the Internet in the community.
The Centre is a multi-purpose church and community centre, which now offers a wide range of activities and services, including internet access and IT training.
Gary Palmer of EverybodyOnline says ‘We are working hard in Newlyn to raise awareness of the benefits of the Internet to the wider community. The Internet really can help transform businesses and peoples lives.’
actnow recently set up the wireless broadband network at the Centre in Newlyn free of charge, so that the community could make the most of the technology.
Gary says ‘Because we are able to offer broadband access and IT training in a very relaxed and accessible environment, we are finding that the project is attracting people from all parts of the local community.
‘The internet can have particularly dramatic benefits for those that are most disadvantaged in society. For example, it can make it easier to access national and local government services as well as opening up the possibility of online training.
‘ For people who do not have transport or who are disabled, the internet makes it easy to access services and products that would otherwise have been out of reach.’
