Cornish Sardine
Part of the sixth generation of a family of fisherman, David Pascoe has been fishing since the age of 15.
He started off with his father and uncle and bought his first small boat six years later, working out of Newlyn and St Ives.
While fishing in Mounts Bay, he took note of the healthy sardine stocks. He went to Brittany, bought some second hand nets and got started.
Catching sardines proved successful and this enabled him to buy a ten metre boat, ‘Little Pearl’.
David has been fishing for sardines for the past eight seasons.
He connected to broadband in early 2006 and set up his website www.cornishsardine.com
David says ‘ I use broadband to check the latest weather forecasts, which is a huge help with planning and safety.
I have had a number of orders through the website, some private sales and some have been such large orders that I have passed them onto my processors. Broadband has opened the way to finding new customers.
I set the site up partly because I wanted to help raise awareness of the Cornish sardine industry. The site includes recipe suggestions and a history of sardine fishing. I have now been asked to provide a fisherman’s blog for the very popular site www.seafish.org
Broadband is helping add a new dimension to the fishing industry, increasing public awareness and reaching out to new customers.’
