Martin James Medical Ltd designs and equips hospitals throughout the UK and abroad. Managing Director Brian Hobbs says “We are UK market leader in our sector and have an international reputation for the quality of our work. We are currently involved in capital build projects worth £1.5 billion and that obviously involves a huge amount of data transfer with the number of plans to be sent by email. If it had not been for the availability of broadband, we would have had to consider moving out of Cornwall.”
Instead, the company has recently secured additional premises in Truro and has recruited four new staff so far this year, swelling their workforce by over 10%. “The availability of broadband in Truro has been pivotal to our decision to base premises there” says Brian.
The company now has two 2Mb ADSL broadband connections which were made through actnow in April 2004.
With the help of funding through actnow accelerator, they bought three network servers, with all associated back up and power devices, software & cabling. The total cost has been £27,000 and through actnow accelerator, the company has been able to benefit from a rebate of over £10,000.
Martin James Medical are also currently rebranding the business and part of this exercise will include a new and improved website. “actnow has helped us with up to 40% of the costs involved in our website development” says Brian.
The new equipment will help the company in creating remote access for home based consultants as there will be a state of the art network linking home workers, the offices in Truro and Coverack, and project offices across the UK. The network will allow the company to take full advantage of broadband technology.
“The new system will greatly enhance the efficiency and productivity of the business” says Brian. “The time savings will create greater capacity which we expect to lead to increased turnover and market share.”
