Truro firm Clowning Around was established by former banker Joyce Trevail and former teacher Angela Pearce. They have used broadband to expand into eCommerce.
Joyce said “Our success in selling through the internet has astonished us. It has widened our horizons enormously. Quite frankly, we see ourselves as computer novices, but about a year ago my son persuaded us to start selling products through a company in the US which arranges online auctions and sales.
“It was immediately successful. We found people buying items such as wigs, Elvis Presley outfits, Harry Potter-type glasses and Sci-fi masks from as far away as America and various parts of Europe, such as Germany and Portugal. Wigs are our best sellers. Ironically, we buy the wigs from a firm in New York and then often end up selling them to customers in the United States.”
Joyce and Angela made use of the support and expertise available from actnow to improve their website and to improve their online sales. In particular, the Internet offers them an opportunity to build business during quieter periods as the traditional business is highly seasonal with the vast majority of sales between Halloween and the New Year.
