Artistic Cornwall
Rupert Hitchcox runs Artistic Cornwall a web-based vehicle for up and coming local artists who either find it difficult to gain recognition from galleries or would like to have more control over the selling and promotion of their work. Rupert himself is a photographer and is familiar with the difficulties that up and coming artists in Cornwall face.
“I set up the site to act as a shop window for local artists to post their news and work. They pay an annual membership fee that gives them access to their own webpage. From there they are able to sell and display images of their work and upload news about their activities. What’s great is that each artist is in control of his or her own section so they can access their content at anytime of the day or night to amend the content. There is no commission on the selling of work the artists are in control of the whole process themselves the website acts as a platform for them to work from.”
The site was produced with the help of bigAPE Development Ltd a leading-edge software company providing Web applications and solutions consulting to business. The collaboration has enabled Rupert to use new technologies that are only available with a broadband connection. They have ensured a continually optimized website even with the addition of new artist pages and an effective security system specifically developed for the artists peace of mind.
“The great part of running a purely web-based business like this is that it allows me and the other artists who use it much greater flexibility and mobility. If I have a shoot scheduled up country Artistic Cornwall isn’t affected because I can access the site from anywhere. When I was in Australia with access to a broadband connection I was still able to maintain the site.”
