Water Craft
Water Craft, a glossy magazine which has been described as ‘pornography for boatbuilders’ because of its glorious full page photography of boats, was the 50,000th business or household to connect to broadband in Cornwall.
The most expensive boating magazine in the UK, Water Craft is an independent business run by Pete Greenfield, previously founding editor of ‘Classic Boat’ and ‘The Boatman’, from the small clapboard building which used to be the village shop in Gweek.
“I am a green commuter in that I walk to work in this tiny village and yet the business now provides employment for 2 part time staffers and 3 freelancers.”
Water Craft is published six times a year and is distributed in the UK, Scandinavia, Holland, France, Italy and even Australia and the US. “And we have subscribers everywhere else, from Thailand to Croatia.” adds Pete.
“As a high quality magazine specialising in full page pictures of boats, we are very dependent on receiving high resolution images over the Internet. With a dial up connection, this can sometimes take up to 2 hours for a single photo to download. Now with broadband, I am looking forward to being able to receive photographs and advertisements in minutes. The time saving will be a huge benefit to us and will increase our efficiency significantly.”
“Now we can revamp the whole website, to really make the most of broadband and we can offer magazine samples through the website.”
