West Country Electrical Services

Gary John, owner of West Country Electrical Services has been connected to broadband since 2004 and has received funding towards the cost of his broadband connection through actnow.

Gary says “Broadband has made a big difference.  It has saved me time and money and has made it easier to run my business. I am now able to find better quotes on the Internet and have set up accounts with online wholesalers which make buying electrical materials cheaper”.

As well as using broadband to email customers quotes and source equipment online, Gary finds it quicker to register his electrical installations online via the Building Control website. By law electricians are required to register electrical work that they undertake with the regulatory body, NICEIC, who also carry out regular assessments of their registered electrical contractors to ensure that they are competent to carry out electrical installations.

Gary says: “Before I had broadband I had to send a written report to the NICEIC every time I did an electrical installation, now all I have to do is fill in the online form on the Building Control website and they register it for me with the NICEIC -  it makes everything a lot easier and saves me time”.

Despite finding technology a great help in running his business Gary has no plans to start advertising himself via a website. He says “All of my electrical jobs come from word of mouth and good recommendations.  I would only get a website if I needed to advertise for more work, but at the moment I have all the work I can handle!”
