The Porthminster
The Porthminster is located high above Porthminster Beach in St Ives with stunning views across the bay.
Chief Executive, Trevor Richards, says "The Porthminster is the oldest limited company in Cornwall and we are well over a hundred years old.
"But it is only by anticipating the needs of tomorrow’s customers that we can make sure the hotel has a great future as well as a great past."
With help from actnow, Trevor installed a wireless broadband hotspot in one of the hotel’s lounge areas early in 2005. This is available to guests, who can sit at a comfortable desk and use a PC free of charge.
He says "Guests regularly make use of the broadband access. Visitors who are on leisure breaks often use it to surf the net and find information about the local area or to catch up with their emails.
"And business people tell me they find it invaluable to be able to stay in touch with the office when they are away.
"There have been a number of occasions when business people have booked to stay here when they would not have done, if we were not able to offer broadband access."
The Porthminster has extensive conference facilities and conference delegates also find it helpful to be able to use broadband while they are at the hotel.
"Providing broadband access for visitors has definitely helped us attract guests to the Porthminster" says Trevor. "It is a useful extra facility to be able to offer."
